This blog is for my ASL class. I love ASL so much. I wish I could take it again, but it just doesn't count toward my degree. But, I promise, I will take ASL again in the future. It is apart of me now. :)

10th Week Summary
For the 10th week I was actually in class both days for sign language!
On Tuesday we first free signed normally for three minutes. After that we then free signed another three minutes but with only one hand! That was a little more difficult but it was fun. Later on Professor Carl split the room up and we copy signed each other’s signs. It was really interesting. After that we did topic signing. This day Carl showed us a picture of an airplane and above it said, “Can we fly?” That was pretty difficult for me. I just kept doing the sign for airplane. I didn’t know what else to sign. I saw other people doing the same thing also. Finally we had a class discussion. We talked about the final and what had to be included.
Thursday was a very fun day! It was also our last class which was kind of sad. Most of Thursday we did Lego people. We got to pick a Lego person out of a bin and sign about it to our neighbor. We had to make up a name, a name sign and tell how, why, where and when our Lego person met another Lego person. It was really fun making up my own story. I got to explore what signs I know and what signs I wanted to learn. After that we talked more about the final.
Week ten was fun but sad at the same time. I am going to miss sign language. Maybe I will take it again sometime in the future. Thanks Professor Carl!
9th Week Summary
Sadly, I was never in class the whole 9th week of sign language.
On Tuesday I was still not feeling very well, but I heard that we free signed as usual. On our syllabus for week nine it says copying to creating, object topicalization, non-manual expressions and Lego people are people too! Also I have been working on the unit 4 homework just like it says. I’m not sure of what else we did in class on Tuesday but I’m sure it was interesting, as sign language always is.
On Thursday we didn’t have class because it was Thanksgiving.
Even though I was never in class this week I still learned sign language at home!
8th Week Summary
Week 8 was another short week for me, because I wasn't there on Thursday.
On Tuesday though, I was in sign language class. First we free signed as usual for three minutes. Although I think Professor Carl made it more like five minutes. After we free signed Carl wrote on an index card saying, “I’m Concerned.” He was telling us that his chair said there were people in his class who did not understand the material. He spent most of the class signing about it. He was sort of upset that we weren’t coming to him for help. After our class discussion Professor Carl seemed upset and let us all take a ten minute break. After he came back in he put a book out and we read a page or two about language. When we were done he let us out of class early.
On Thursday I wasn’t there because I was sick. But, I was told by my classmates that Carl wasn’t there because he was in the hospital. I was also told that Erin had the class play a game. It made them think of signs fast so they could improve their signing skills. Then, Erin let the class out early.
I wish I could have been there on Thursday. I do not like missing sign language class because I love it so much. There is always something to learn in sign language!
